Mount Pleasant Adds CityWatch System
ABC News Ch. 4
Wednesday, February 3rd
A hurricane is looming. A child is missing. There
is flooding. A suspect is targeting your neighborhood. If
this happens clear communication is critical for everyone.
The Mount Pleasant Police Department is
equipped and has the resources necessary to provide information
to the community through its’ CityWatch automated notification
system. The system has been in place since 2002 and has
been used for everything from evacuation notification,
to solicitation for assistance in the location of a missing
child.
CityWatch is an automated telephone system
that can make simultaneous calls to households within the
Town. The Department can record messages about situations
to include instructions on what people need to do. Once
an area is selected for calling the system will automatically
telephone all published numbers within the area and deliver
the message.
One of the problems facing the Department
is the access to current telephone numbers of the Town’s
residents. Since the system relies on the publicly available
telephone number databases, private numbers and cellular
numbers do not generally receive the important information.
In an effort to improve information dissemination the Mount
Pleasant Police Department is requesting those persons
with telephone numbers they want included in the Departments
database to contact Captain Amy McCarthy at:
